To Guy or not to Guy...

  Although I don't recommend shooting in windy condiditons, if you must, guying can be used to stabilize the pole. When working  in gusty conditions a good rule of thumb is to guy when extending above 30’.  
     

 

By design, the poles I build have a  natural bow on the cable side above 40'.

 

This bow serves as a virtual guy and is perfect for 2 line guying forward.  

 

Guy lines can be attached just under the cradle, but the best location is  at or below the top pulley bracket. 

I use 200# braided dacron for guy line.  It's plenty strong and  has very little stretch in 50'.
